Helen Schoeni in the American Red Cross Service Club #1, New Guinea, on the very day this photo was taken (1941). Throughout the Pacific, Allied servicemen went to clubs like this for rest, recuperation, and entertainment. At ARC Service Club #1, a musical of the kind Bill Zacha worked on, would play to audiences of 4000 troops and support staff, each night of its brief run. Photo: American Red Cross Archives
